Never too soon to financially prepare for next Christmas!

I got a gorgeous colour changing candle 19dhs reduced from 55dhs in M&S yesterday and a light up reindeer wall art 9dhs reduced from 119dhs!!
I always buy a new candle and a couple of new decorations so these will be carefully paced away and either be a fab gift or save me cash next year.

Start next year's sinking fund (savings) and write a reflection note on anythingbyou feel you wasted money on last year and pop it in your Dec's box. Then hopefully you will remind yourself not to do it again!
Also write a list of gifts purchased so you can try to buy what I call the stocking filling nick knacks as you see total bargains this year.

Oh and do you like my 35dhs plant? Also M&S crazy homes clearance. Replace the 2 I have killed with plastic time!

Total bag with a few food and clothing for Raya bits was a saving of literally hundreds! And all things I needed with a sprinkle of 'I want' 😂

Who fixes things these days?! Raya!

I think we have almost forgotten its possible to repair things when we have busy lives and clothes, furniture, equipment etc are so readily available to us. There a new fashion, a different trend to keep up with so just chuck it out and buy a new one right?
WRONG! What is this teaching our kids? What about the environment? And let's think about the cash we could be investing in our future!

Okay so i'm not always going to be sewing up holes and there are times things have had their day. However, if we invest in quality and give love and attention when needed our belongings should have a good life span.

I was pretty overwhelmed when Raya pestered me to 'teach me mummy' to sew up a hole in a t shirt of hers, where the label had been cut out. I could not believe how well she did. So much determination in her!

I am sooooo proud this week!

I am proud of two things. Firstly this little munchkin who has taken to wearing her new glasses like a duck to water and is so far treating them beautifully, taking great pride in cleaning them, storing them in the case and showing her friends. I try my best to teach Raya how to care for things nicely as I would hope she will grow up knowing that things last longer and cost less when they are treated well. For me being frugal isn't about being cheap. It is about buying quality and caring for it to get the best from it.
Though with the glasses we did go budget knowing that accidents happen and she will need to be reviewed in 6 months. Shout out to Lenskart for the glasses as they seem to be all good.

Secondly, I am overwhelmed with pride and joy in placing this painting in my living room. I found an old Ikea frame and whilst it deserves better quality I think you will agree it looks amazing. This beauty traveled back from the UK with me this summer and was painted many years ago by my Nan. My Nan passed away whilst we were on the red list this year and whilst it broke my heart there was a lot of heart warmth that came out of looking through some of her things in her flat in the summer. I found this painting amongst many. It is my sister and I when we were young playing with my tiny tears doll. Raya played with that same doll this summer, in the wicker basket and clothes I was treated to during trips out with Nan. Looking at this painting I can smell the peonies, geranium leaves and feel the silky lamb's ears like it was yesterday. We turned the front space into a rockery a few years later.

This has to be THE most valuable possession in my house. Worth nothing and the world.

I was feeling super lazy yesterday so ordered Kibson's delivery for our fruit and veg. This was well out of my comfort zone as I am such a control freak and someone else choosing my cucumbers does not sit well for me!

ALL IN ALL A POSITIVE RESULT!

That said I have certainly made some online shopping errors by over-ordering and can see myself making tomato soup this week. I did spend a bit more than normal and I will need to go and buy melon, mangoes and pomegranates because I couldn't bring myself to buy the only option of more expensive or huge quantity I could get with Kibsons. I'll also buy Arabic breads from Carrefour when I pass later.

An overall positive verdict from me in terms of value with a health warning...stick with local produce and Kibsons can be as cheap or cheaper than Carrefour or Viva however don't get sucked into buying exotic varieties and be careful with the weights. Have scales and a few pieces of veg nearby to help you estimate the amount you need if you are not used to buying online by weight.

Be very cautious with other online produce sellers who price per 500g or 'packet' rather than per kilo as you can easily be very misled by the price in this case.

Raya loves her Sainsburys bargain toothpaste! 75ml for 6.50dhs!
