Posted • Are you going through a heatwave right now? 🥵
Most people’s turn on A/C during a heatwave, to cool down the air.
However, not everyone has A/C, and many choose to avoid it because it is extremely energy consuming.
The more we use A/C to cool down the air, the more energy we consume, and so the more global warming we generate!
It is a vicious circle and with current energy prices, it’s also very bad for your wallet!
So how to survive a heatwave without A/C?
There are a few simple things you can do to keep your home cooler and feel better.
1️⃣ Close your blinds, windows and curtains where the sun is hitting, especially during the hottest hours of the day. It might seem counterintuitive but closing windows and keeping your home in the dark is actually a great way to avoid absorbing the heat.
2️⃣ Install LED bulbs: LED bulbs are energy-efficient, which means that they consume less energy than traditional bulbs, and they release less heat in the air. This helps keeping your home cool.
3️⃣ Prepare cold food rather than hot food. By eating cold food, you will feel better, and will also consume less energy from appliances like the oven, the stove, microwave, etc. These appliances release heat and will warm your home.
4️⃣ Take cold showers: you will feel better and spend less energy if you don’t heat the water!
5️⃣ Choose breathable bed linen: natural fibers like cotton, h**p, linen generally permit more air flow, which helps you stay cooler at night. Synthetic fibers like polyester do not permit air flow, and tend to make you sweat!
