Takwela Camp, operated by Remote Africa Safaris, is a remote wilderness camp set at the confluence of the Luangwa and Mwaleshi Rivers in Zambia’s wild North Luangwa.
Opened in 2019, the camp sits in one of Africa’s most untouched and well-protected parks, supported by conservation partners including the Frankfurt Zoological Society and Zambia’s Department of National Parks and Wildlife.
With just four solar-powered chalets accommodating a maximum of eight guests, Takwela offers an intimate, low-impact safari experience. Each chalet is built using local materials and traditional craftsmanship, blending seamlessly into the surrounding bush.
Set above a resident hippo pod with sweeping views of pristine wilderness, the camp delivers a true sense of isolation and immersion in nature, often with few or no other visitors in the entire park.
Access is part of the adventure: a scenic flight from South Luangwa, followed by a short game drive and canoe crossing into camp, or a beautiful 10km walk along the Mwaleshi River for the more adventurous.
North Luangwa is home to exceptional wildlife, including black rhino, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, wild dog, and hyena, offering rare and authentic sightings in a truly wild landscape.
