New streaming platform to boost Zambian film industry
By Abraham Chipilingu
Nard Films Zambia, a leading Zambian film production company, has announced the upcoming launch of Nard Plus, a new online streaming platform.
The platform, which is set to be launched in June, aims to provide a channel for locally produced films and documentaries, alongside international content.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, Nard Films Zambia Managing Director Conarrd Muwowo emphasized the platform's potential to expand the reach of Zambian filmmakers.
"Nard plus within Africa will be a stream lined platform and focused in countries like Zambia, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and also trying to close up with Kenya," he said.
He further shared that the digital outlet will be licensed so as to ensure that local filmmakers whose films will be streamed on the platform are paid.
"The biggest opportunity for local filmmakers is the income, and we are trying to make sure that the content we have gotten so far from local filmmakers is paid for," Mr. Muwowo said.
Meanwhile, actor and film director Maxwell Mwape expressed his enthusiasm towards the new streaming platform.
"One thing the country lacks is distribution entities and if there is a platform that wants to showcase locally made films It's really a good thing and a powerful idea that can change the course of filmmaking," he said.
As the country awaits its release, with the Zambian film industry is slowly advancing, this service will not only serve as a source of income for local producers but it will also serve as a significant encouragement for aspiring filmmakers across the country.
