MESSAGE FOR INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY 2026
On the occasion of International Museum Day, being commemorated today on 18th May 2026, with theme "Museums Uniting a Divided World", the National Museums Board Director General Mr George. S. Mudenda extends warm wishes and sincere appreciation to all members of staff, stakeholders, partners, and the general public for their continued support and commitment to preserving our moveable cultural and natural heritage.
This year’s celebration reminds us of the important role museums play in education, research, cultural preservation, tourism, and community development. Museums are not only custodians of history and heritage, but also spaces that inspire dialogue, innovation, and unity among people.
We commend all members of staff for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless efforts in safeguarding our nation’s rich moveable cultural and natural heritage for present and future generations. Your commitment continues to strengthen the museum sector and promote national identity and pride.
To the general public, we thank you for your continued interest, participation, and support in museum activities and programmes. We encourage everyone to visit museums, learn from our shared heritage, and join us in celebrating the value of culture and history in shaping our society on this day for free at any museum within your reach.
As we celebrate International Museum Day 2026, let us work together to ensure that museums remain vibrant centers of learning, inclusion, and cultural exchange for all.
Happy International Museum Day 2026!
