Stop mistaking "fast" for "smart." 🛑
In many classrooms, the same three hands shoot up every time. We call it "participation," but is it actually learning? Or is it just rewarding the fastest processors?
This is why Think–Pair–Share is more than just a teaching trick—it’s an equity tool.
By slowing down the pace, we give every student the chance to:
🧠 Think: Process the question without the pressure of a ticking clock.
🗣️ Pair: Test-drive their ideas in a safe, low-stakes conversation.
📢 Share: Contribute to the class with a polished, confident thought.
When we use this structure, we aren’t just looking for the right answer; we’re building a culture where everyone’s voice has value—especially our quiet thinkers and multilingual learners.
The Reality: If only three kids are thinking, only three kids are learning.
Let’s change the math.
How are you making sure every student has the time they need to think today?
