The Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0 was a straightforward conversion. Simply snip all the wires to the stock board and throw it far, far away. I reused the stock wires and plugs. Sounds great and runs like a swiss watch.

Bachmann makes some nice locomotives, certainly their Spectrum Steam line. I recently put DCC and sound in a Bachmann Spectrum 4-6-0. The installation was fine but the lighting was unacceptable. Bachmann used an LED but it was a blue LED and not a true white light. To make it worse, they used a square Lucite light pipe to get the light to the lens. I replaced the lighting with a warm white SMD LED. Before and after pictures are below.

A recent N scale install. Kato non-dcc ready loco with a ESU Kato drop in decoder! Had to do some major milling to get the room. Two Sountraxx 32ohm speakers in parallel. Sounds and runs awesome!
