Local businesses, non-profits, and individuals are all welcome to register for this event. Participants are required to register for the event in person, beginning on Tuesday, September 1st, and running through the month of September if spaces remain available. It is important to note that a line forms along Main Street hours before the Visitors Center opens for scarecrow registration each year, so registrants will want to arrive early to reserve a prime spot for their displays. Spaces in the event are limited and most if not all of them are expected to be reserved by close of business (5pm) on September 1st
This year's registration fee is $100 for businesses and $50 for non-profits and individuals. The scarecrows will be on display throughout the month of October, during which the public votes for their favorite scarecrow designs. Voting takes place at the Visitors Center, which is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday Noon-5pm. The votes are $1 each. Businesses with scarecrow displays may accept votes in their place of business as well. The winners receive bragging rights and an awesome trophy.
The proceeds from the Scarecrow Invasion benefit INSeason, the design committee for IN WDSTK that imagines and implements design initiatives for the Downtown Woodstock area. The money raised from this event will help enhance the beautification of Downtown Woodstock, including seasonal landscaping and holiday decor along Main Street.
Installation of scarecrow displays will take place between Monday, September 28th and Friday, October 2nd, and will all be removed by Sunday, November 3rd.
