SHE LIVES! After extensive calibration, the first print on this Voron 2.4r2 350 is printing! The test cube came out great, though the retraction is a bit much.

Calibration was a beast in itself. Because the Gantry is driven by four independent Z motors, it needs to run an automatic leveling macro before each print to ensure it prints flat. This gave us issues with the probe, because the probe won't work unless the gantry is at lease somewhat level. After manually releveling a few times, however, she is good to go.

First real print started, a three day long print of a modified Stormtrooper helmet in one piece. Hope she holds together! (Hear me baby, hold together...)

WIRES! Figuring out the wiring proved quite a challenge. The Formbot3D kit that provided the non-printed parts was slightly different from the Assembly Manual. After some back and forth with their customer service and some helpful Redditors, we got everything in place!

Final step is programming, configuration and tuning. So close!

Fun fact: Found an error in the Assembly Manual! According to the instructions, you are to install the magnetic plate first, then attach the bed to the frame. If you do this, however, you will cover the bolt holes that you'll need to install into. We had to drill through the magnet to access the mounting holes. Just remember kids: sometimes it pays NOT to follow directions! 😉

Got the Z motors and Z tensioners assembled! Starting to look like a printer.

Fun fact: The Voron 2.4r2 build has a stationary bed. Unlike most printers, the hotend does all the moving on this printer. In theory, this should lead to more stable prints and faster theoretical speeds. We'll see if theory holds out!

Putting together an exciting edition to our 3D printer lineup: a Voron printer! This is going to be the 2.4r2 350mm printer, with a Dragon hotend.

I'll be posting updates as we finish different parts of the build! To begin with, note the enormous amount of parts that will be going into this printer. It will be a solid construction.

First up is the frame! Important that all parts are built square to each other to ensure stability and smooth operation of linear rails. Up next: the rails!
