Step 3 of the Raleigh revival. 🔧

Time to pull the one-piece crank and bottom bracket… and honestly, I’m shocked at how easily everything came apart for a bike that’s been sitting this long.

Now it’s time to get everything cleaned up before moving on!

Step 2 of the 1980s Raleigh BMX revival.

Working my way from the rear of the bike to the front, so naturally the chain was next.

Nothing fancy here, just the good old pickle jar method. A little degreaser, a lot of shaking, and years of grime start working their way out.

Next up will be the bottom bracket, cranks and sprocket as I keep moving forward through the bike.

The revival begins. 🤘

This 1980s Raleigh BMX has definitely seen some history, and today was just step one, a much-needed wash to see what we’re really working with.

There’s still a long road ahead with plenty more cleaning, service, and lots more I can do to bring this old race bike back to life. I’ve already been filming the process, so this is just the start of the series.

30 minutes into step ONE of bringing my old S-Squared race frame back to life 😅

I ran it sandblasted raw aluminum forever and finally decided it deserves a full rebuild and polish series instead of slowly collecting dust. This will be my biggest polishing project yet by far.

So far it’s definitely one of those projects that gets worse before it gets better… but the vision is there!
