PARK FALLS, WIS. – Some describe speycasting as an art. That’s fair. The flow is real, but rod designers at St. Croix Fly say it’s just as much science as art.

All-new for 2027, PHYSYX SPEY rods are conceived, engineered, and precision-crafted to elevate the spey-casting experience with science that supports angler ability. In other words, establishing the anchor, your D-loop, and forward stroke are up to you, but PHYSYX SPEY is the variable in the two-handed casting equation that rewards angler ex*****on. These are rods born from nearly 80 years of research, development, and American manufacturing, combined with the most-advanced rod-building materials and technologies available.

INTRODUCING PHYSYX SPEY FOR 2027

From big tailwater trout and summer-run half-pounders to giant winter-run PNW coastal fish, the PHYSYX SPEY family consists of five 4-piece two-handed rods ranging from a 12’1” 5-weight to a 12’8” 8-weight, each optimized for power, precision, and all-out angler joy.

As anglers spend more days on the water and become increasingly aware of the long-term effects of sun exposure, demand for performance face guards continues to rise. For retailers, that trend presents an easy opportunity to increase basket size while offering customers another layer of protection and comfort from a trusted brand.

Fish Monkey's Performance Face Guards have become a popular companion purchase to the brand's industry-leading gloves and American-made socks, helping retailers build a complete package of sun-protection and comfort solutions for their customers. Together, Fish Monkey gloves, face guards and socks create a system designed to keep anglers comfortable from head to toe during long days on the water.

Unlike traditional tubular face coverings, Fish Monkey Performance Face Guards feature a flared design that dramatically improves all-day comfort and wearability.

Sportfishing Industry Hosts 63 Trash Cleanups During National Fishing & Boating Week

Last week, as part of National Fishing & Boating Week 2026, the sportfishing industry coalesced around a single goal – pick up trash along our favorite local waterways and improve fishing for America’s 57 million anglers. As part of this inaugural effort, known as the Million Pound Challenge, 31 companies and state fisheries management agencies hosted over 63 cleanups across the country, removing debris from rivers, lakes and beaches.

The American Sportfishing Association staff spent last Thursday at Fletcher’s Cove in Washington, D.C., where we collected over 500 lbs. of trash from the banks of the Potomac River. Organized cleanups will continue throughout the summer as we work together to reach our goal.

Click below to learn more about the Million Pound Challenge and join us in 2027 as we work towards our goal of removing 1 million lbs. of trash from our waterways.

Minnetonka, Minnesota – IGFA records confirm that the CountDown® Magnum® is the world's number one saltwater hard-bodied lure. That’s why it's ubiquitous on charter boats from the Carolinas to Cabo, and anywhere else big pelagics roam.

Well, if the original Countdown Magnum has that kind of star power, just imagine what its tougher brother, the new CountDown Magnum Elite, can do.

Toothy saltwater beasts are hard on baits, so anglers need a lure that can attract big fish and survive big hits, again and again. That’s exactly what the CountDown Magnum Elite was made to do. Take hits.

The Elite features slightly flatter sides than the standard CountDown, which helps it track better at high speeds. Anglers can troll this bait up to 10 knots.

The Only Thing You’ll Break is a World Record.

The Coastal Conservation Association of California (CCA CAL) has launched a search for a new Executive Director to successfully lead the non-profit, volunteer-based organization in its critical mission to conserve, promote and enhance California ocean resources and sportfishing access to them.

“These are both exciting and challenging times for California saltwater anglers,” said Bill Shedd, chairman of AFTCO and CCA CAL. “For more than a decade, CCA CAL has led the way in advocating for California saltwater anglers, fighting against unwarranted closures and regulations, supporting hatchery programs through legislation and the volunteer network, and working to build thriving marine habitat off our coast.

“CCA CAL has racked up major achievements for its members, particularly over the past few years,” Shedd continued.

The non-profit saltwater angling-oriented organization looks to build on recent major achievements and chart a course for growth.

MUSKEGON, Mich. – Across the broader performance apparel landscape, bamboo is rapidly gaining serious traction as a premier technical material. The industry is experiencing a macro-level shift away from purely synthetic, plastic-based garments toward high-performance natural fibers that inherently outclass many lab-engineered textiles. In active outdoor markets, premium plant-based fabrics are becoming the benchmark for top-shelf gear.

Regrettably, the fishing market has unproductively been flooded with copycats —brands rushing to slap a buzzword onto a hangtag without utilizing the specific grade of fiber required to deliver actual performance. Opposingly, Whitewater continues to operate on its foundational, uncompromising principle: fabric is always first.
