Hello New Year, F*CK OFF New Year Resolutions ✌🏽

There is so much pressure in January to declare the ways you will fix yourself. Our social media feeds are full of diets and wellness regimens. The algorithm suggests another self-help book. Productivity apps go one sale. The new year can arrive with an urgency to get our sh*t together by any means necessary.

What if we decided to resist that pressure? We can approach goals + intention setting with more gentleness + creativity.

We are not saying don’t have visions for yourself or set goals. But what we are bringing to the front of the line, is honoring where we are at at the moment without jumping into a rigid, hustle future of how we should be.

The other day, wrote on her story feed, a huge truth about where we are as a collective. The truth…. It is Winter. Winter is a season of rest, rejuvenation, savoring our energy. And yet, we have been taught to set intentions and goals that take us completely out of the natural state we are supposed to be in during this time. So here is to saying F*CK OFF to resolutions that don’t do anything for the soul. To resolutions that make us feel good about ourselves for a second, and leave us anxious the rest of the year.

Cheers to:

✅ envisioning the year ahead -without the rigid energy of hustling harder

✅identify how you would like to feel in the year ahead

✅ not focusing on what is wrong or what should be different

✅ not adding something new to your to-do list

✅ not hustling towards the best version of ourselves (*cough, cough, perfectionism)

pa middle finger artwork is a reminder of how we are showing up for those New Year resolutions in 2023 🙌🏽✨💕 you can find these patches and beautiful tufted rug artwork at the shop. Today we are resting 😊

Femme Fatale DC takes over Selina with .

On December 3, we will be friends giving and vibing together.

Everyone is invited to join us this year as we gather for Friends Giving (4:30 - 7:00 pm) to create gift boxes for our neighbors at DC KinCare Alliance. Then join in for Soul Vibe, a dance party with a cause (8:00 pm - 1:00 am).

Friends Giving + Soul Vibe: December 3, 2022

Friends Giving | 4:30 - 7:00 PM | Tickets

Join The Team at Femme Fatale DC, Entrepreneurs, and community members as we adorn and pack gift boxes for the families of DC KinCare Alliance.

Our goal is to fund, fill, and deliver 22 Holiday Gift Boxes to families at DC KinCare Alliance.

We are asking the community to Sponsor a box by: Choosing the ticket “Sponsor a gift box and dance all night, $25” (✨click on link in bio✨)

By purchasing this ticket, you are assuring that someone receives a thoughtful gift. Each box will be curated to fit the needs of a specific child or family.

At Friends Giving, we will:

hang together, getting a lot out of giving a little

decorate 22 Holiday Gift Boxes (about the size of a shoe box)

pack 22 Holiday Gift Boxes

And of course, will be setting the musical vibes while we get creative with the packaging of thoughtful treasures for people in our community.

DC KinCare Alliance labors towards a future where all DC children live in a safe and stable home. They work to support caregivers who raise DC’s most vulnerable and at-risk children (usually grandparents or other relatives) whose parents are not able to care for them.

A huge thank you to the ladies who made this event possible: , , .eph, ,

Gratitude.

In 2017 we held our very first Meet & Greet at our first location on H St. At that time, we had only 12 businesses make up what we thought would be our first and only pop-up. Five years later, we came together to share space for our 7th Meet & Greet with the entrepreneurs and creatives that make up FFDC 7.0 in Cleveland Park. And we have grown! We are Blessed to showcase the talents and hard work of 65 businesses at this location.

Last night was a reminder of why 5 years later, we as a business are standing strong. It starts with the PEOPLE. It has always been about the PEOPLE.

Today, Femme Fatale DC is an ecosystem of entrepreneurship, experiences and community that fuel our social purpose: which is to create a place where we can make our money our way while experimenting with new products, ideas and intiatives. FFDC is a place where we up-lift one another - it is a reciprocity based environment where you can try out new ideas and products with the support of the community.

Thank you to all those who just started supporting this vision and to those who continue to share our MAGIC 🪄

We promise to continue bringing the vibes. Our ask is that you keep bringing the support. We are open 7 days a week from 11am-6pm. Fuel the bold and vibrant FFDC ecosystem you have all come to know and love.

who wants to chat about our latest fave self-care** topic? BOUNDARIES!

(**ACTUAL self-care, not social media where it's all memes/cheugy girl-bossing/not really doing the thing)

having boundaries doesn't just mean saying NO. to get good at it, we've got to get to the root of why we say YES to things, too.

are you still saying YES when you need to say NO to certain people or situations?

likewise, are there times that you say NO when you might really need to say YES to something that can help you grow?

learning to set clear + healthy boundaries is really about fine-tuning our internal guidance system. and in this capitalist chaos that we call society, that can be hard to do without practice.

we're taught from a young age to ignore our bodies, question our guts, and put external demands ahead of our emotional GPS. it's time to take back the wheel and start driving our own bus again!

here's a simple way to start listening to your intuition when making decisions:

🧭 next time you have a decision to make, pause and sit with the choice for a moment.
🧭 what feelings come up for you when you imagine saying YES? where do you feel this in your body?
🧭 likewise, what happens for you when you imagine saying NO?
🧭 what's your body telling you about this decision? how does it feel to trust that wisdom?

let's talk about building better boundaries together. what boundary-setting practices do you want to level up? what boundary victories have you won lately?

When was the last time you had a good cry? Or are you one of those people who claims they "never" cry?

As with most human things, criers and crying fall along a spectrum from the Never Criers to people like my mother who cry over sappy commercials.

When you stop to think about the act of crying, it's kind of fascinating: we cry for so many reasons, in so many ways!

Like...
💧 break-up tear fests
💧 frustrated cries
💧 laughing so hard you cry
💧 sentimental tears
💧 post-orgasm weeping
💧 crying in the bathroom at work
💧 tears of joy
💧 grief-stricken sobbing
💧 period bawling
💧 crying/shrieking in rage
💧 nervous tears
💧 speechless blubbering

True, sometimes tears come at a really inconvenient time. But when we get over the societal shame around crying as a weakness, we can use our tears as a tool to feel better.

Regardless of what emotion triggered it, crying is a self-soothing behavior that releases oxytocin and endorphins. It's good for you!

Next time you feel your eyes welling up, give in to the feeling and have a good cry. Your brain will thank you for it.

Let it alllll out in the comments:
💧 drop your fave crying emoji
💧 what made you cry recently?
💧 are you a free-crier? a never-crier? somewhere in between?
