This incredible Seljuk lockbox, made in Iran over 800 years ago, used a rotating dial system that only opened when the correct sequence was perfectly aligned. Long before digital passwords or modern safes, medieval engineers were already building precision security devices using advanced mechanics and mathematics.
The box wasn’t just functional either. It was covered in intricate brass engravings, geometric designs, and inscriptions that turned it into a work of art. Historians say objects like this prove Islamic metalworkers during the Seljuk era were producing some of the most sophisticated mechanical technology in the world.
Basically, this was the medieval version of a high-security lockbox… except handcrafted entirely out of brass.
