The Mad River Valley is a talented community brimming with makers of all crafts! I was honored to be amongst eight of them in the 3rd Annual Banners on Bridge Street. An event conceived by artist brings a pop of color to our quaint street while fulfilling her passion for upcycling materials and bringing art to her community.
We were given a double-sided blank recycled vinyl canvas invited to create meaningful art. Reflecting on this request, I wanted my work to radiate my love for our hometown and its outdoor playground, which both our children and adults enjoy to the fullest.
Thus, "The Great Eddy" was contrived, a title that fittingly honors a friend's new adventure while simultaneously reflects the beloved summer activity of jumping off the Abutment! The image I painted mirrors a day after school when my kids and their friends relished in the warm weather and took their first plunge of the season off the Abutment, an unspoken commencement into summer that can be experienced at the core by locals and visitors alike and makes this little Bridge a memorable one!
The other side of the canvas unviels a little piece of me, titled "A Sweet Time at the Eddy" and gives nod to my sweet-tooth and hobby. As an avid Pez collector I chose to paint a PEZ sales rep passing out Pez candies. Attached with humor I designed the Pez dispencer to reflect our beloved Bridge with a person dubbed, "little Eddy" jumping off from it. With delight are you "ALREADY PEZING?"
I had so much fun with this event dabbeling in acrylic for the first time and admiring the variety of art that is displayed on Bridge Street in Waitsfield. If you are in the area stop by and check them out! They will be hung through mid-October and available for purchase with a percentage of the proceeds going towards the Mad River Valley Arts or the Artists choosen organization.
