Ike, after the Leroy Haagen Memorial Park National Night Out.

He started the day wrestling with the broken canopy, which may have ended with him MacGyvering the whole thing back together with packing tape. But after finally winning that battle, he put together this fort.

It started out with just one kid at a time. Ike had an amazing time putting together the rest of the fort with the help of one especially creative and enthusiastic kid.

They decided to add a side room that was significantly taller than the rest of the fort, using a water heater box.

After the room was almost finished, an amazingly and infectiously enthusiastic kid popped up and started decorating the fort.

They turned the extra side room into a secret base, complete with a rainbow painting so the adults wouldn’t know where it was.

And then they helped Ike clean everything up. We definitely called the event a success! Once the fort came down, we had to dismantle the poor broken canopy, which had been progressively falling apart throughout the summer season. It was finally laid to rest in a scrapyard, thanks to some kind and helpful friends of the event.
