The Monthly Stitch Welcome to our shop, where quilting dreams come to life year-round! She showed me the basics, and I was hooked! It's a WIN-WIN situation for sure!

From cozy quilted creations tailored for each month to expert quilting services including longarm quilting and personalized family tree quilts, we stitch memories into every thread. I started quilting about 10 years ago because my mom would talk so excitedly about her quilting projects that I couldn't help but check it out. I love quilting because it provides me an escape like nothing else. I also

love it because I share the passion with my mother which has prompted many quilt shop hopping trips and amazing stories between the two of us. We have even gotten one of my sisters hooked as well. I decided to start this shop in the fall of 2021 because from October 2020 to September 2021, I was making monthly pillow covers for family and friends to bring some joy to a very stressful year. When I realized I had come to the end of the year, I was kind of disappointed. I wanted to keep the fun going, so I thought about how much fun it would be to decide on an item to make for each year with a different theme each month. It gives me a reason to keep sewing, and brings joy to those who visit my shop.

🧵 Sunday Stitch Tip 🧵

If long quilt rows make you nervous, try this 👇

When I’m sewing larger pieces together, I like to work right to left.

First, I find the next point that needs to match up (seam, corner, block intersection, etc.) and clip that spot together.

Then I clip everything to the left of that point and keep repeating the process as I move down the row.

I attached some images to hopefully give you an idea of the process.

Why I do it this way:
✔ Helps seams and blocks line up
✔ Prevents fabric from shifting as I sew
✔ Makes long rows easier to manage
✔ Gives a smoother, more accurate finish

Taking a few extra minutes to clip matching points first can save a lot of frustration later.

Do you pin, clip, or wing it? 😄

🧵 Sunday Stitch Tip 🧵

If your thread keeps breaking… here are a few things to check 👇

Thread breaking is usually a simple fix once you know where to look.

A few common causes:
✔ Your machine needs cleaning (lint buildup!)
✔ Needle is old or the wrong size
✔ Thread is low quality or too old
✔ Machine isn’t threaded correctly
✔ Tension is off

Most of the time, it’s something small — but it can make sewing really frustrating.

When in doubt, I always start with:
➡️ Rethread the machine
➡️ Put in a fresh needle
➡️ Clean out the bobbin area

It fixes more problems than you’d think!

🧵 Sunday Stitch Tip 🧵

A dirty machine can cause more problems than you think 👇

Over time, lint, dust, and thread build up inside your sewing machine — especially around the bobbin area.

That buildup can lead to:
✔ Skipped stitches
✔ Tension issues
✔ Thread breaking
✔ Machine running rough or noisy

Regular cleaning helps your machine run smoother and can extend its life. Even simple maintenance like brushing out lint and keeping things clean can make a big difference.

I also recommend a thorough cleaning at least once a year to keep your machine running its best.

💙 And if you’d rather not tackle it yourself…

🧵 Sunday Stitch Tip 🧵

Not sure what needle size to use on your sewing machine? Here’s an easy way to think about it 👇

Your needle size should match your fabric weight.

Smaller needle (70/10 or 80/12):
Best for lighter fabrics like cotton used in quilting.

Medium needle (90/14):
Good for slightly thicker layers or when sewing through multiple layers.

Larger needle (100/16):
Better for heavy fabrics or thick projects.

For most quilting cotton, I usually stick with an 80/12 needle — it’s a great all-around choice.

Using the right needle helps:
✔ Prevent skipped stitches
✔ Protect your fabric
✔ Give you smoother, more even seams

And don’t forget — a fresh needle makes a big difference too!
