For our last custom pieces, we wanted to take it back to doing what we love the most, restoring vintage mid-century modern pieces to their original look.

This tallboy and matching side table were carefully stripped down to erase the last 60 years of wear. We then refinished everything to make sure that they would look brand new and hopefully last another 60 years for their new owners.

General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain was used to bring the wood back to life. We also gave the hardware a renewed look by coating them in Rub ‘n Buff gold.

Once everything was dry, it was given multiple coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat.

It’s bittersweet to post our last custom flip, but we couldn’t be happier with the way these turned out!

After almost 5 years of flipping and restorations, we have decided to happily retire First State Vintage in the coming weeks. With our boys getting older, we just simply don’t have the time it takes to run FSV and produce quality pieces of furniture.

It has been awesome ride over the past few years. We have met some amazing people and had countless followers and repeat customers.

When we started out back in 2020, the assumption was that we would flip a couple random pieces of furniture here and there. We simply had know idea that we would spend the next 5 years transforming hundreds of pieces of old, outdated furniture into some super cool pieces.

We always get messages from customers and fellow DIYers about flipping and inspiration. So the plan is to keep the FSV page active in order for all of our pictures and step-by-step processes to be accessible.

If there is anything anyone needs before we officially pack up our tools at the end of the month, please reach out!

We just wanted to take a minute to share or lastest flip with everyone.

Our wonderful new customers came to us with their slightly outdated J.B. Van Sciver bedroom set. Since it was made from solid wood and in good structural condition, there was no need to spend thousands of dollars on a brand new set. Instead, they brought everything over to First State Vintage and let us work our magic!

After stripping everything down, we refreshed the tops with General Finishes Antique Walnut Gel Stain. The body’s were painted in Ivory Lace Pro Classic by Sherwin-Williams. Before giving everything a slight distressing to help show of that character, we coated it all with mutiple coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat. For the final touch, the original hardware was cleaned and then given a brand new antique Rub ‘n Buff gold finish.

We couldn’t be happier with the way this set turned out!

This week, we continued to branch out from the furniture world, and dip our toes back into the accent wall business.

Some of our wonderful furniture customers had us come design and build a custom accent wall for their entryway staircase. They sent us their inspiration, and we were able to take care of the rest.

We couldn’t be happier with the way this project turned out!

What an absolutely stunning transformation!This antique dresser has been in our family for over 100 years! Sadly, we had no need for it anymore.

Since it meant more to us than a typical dresser, we really wanted to do something special. After taking some measurements, it became clear that this had the potential to become the perfect bathroom vanity.

The entire piece was carefully reconstructed to be universal for plumbing purposes. We also wanted to try and keep as much storage space as possible for its new owners.

Once the structural work was done, the base was painted in our custom off-white blend by Sherwin-Williams. Once the paint was cured, we coated it all in multiple coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in satin for that extra protection. We then switched the sheen over to flat to give it that gorgeous, final look.

The top was sanded down and given an antique paint wash to match the base. Since it is being used as vanity, the top was given a special waterproofing top coat.

After adding new matte black hardware, we installed a farmhouse vessel sink and a super cool matching one hole farmhouse faucet.

We couldn’t be happier with the way this piece turned out! It’s everything we envisioned and then some.

Our latest flip has so much character! It is incredibly versatile, and can be used in just about any room of your house.

When this original Broyhill piece came into the shop a few weeks ago, we had so many ideas as to how to bring it back to life. Our initial plan was to refinish it as close to its original look as possible.

Unfortunately, that old, wood veneer had other plans. Structurally, this piece was perfect, but the veneer on the top and drawer fronts was unsalvageable.

After repairing everything, we coated the piece in Urbane Bronze by Sherwin-Williams. Once the paint was cured, we coated it all in multiple coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in satin for that extra protection. We then switched the sheen over to flat to give it that gorgeous, final look.

We also made sure to find the perfect set of hardware for this flip. We wanted to keep that vintage feel while still giving it that modern update. These new antique brass pulls do just that!

I suppose we are more than just furniture refinishers!

We recently completed a nursery makeover for some long-time friends. They are expecting their baby girl very soon, and wanted to make sure she came home to the cutest room possible.

We were brought in to create a new, green board and batten accent wall. Once everything was built and painted, they applied the perfect accent wallpaper to finish it all off.

It’s been a while, but we’re back! We’ve spent the past few weeks working on some custom projects brought to us by our wonderful customers. In between those jobs, we found some time to sneak in our latest creation.

This refinished, modern farmhouse piece came into the shop a month or so ago straight from the early 90’s.

It was plain, and outdated. We decided to stick to its farmhouse design, but give it a facelift, and make it versatile enough to fit in just about any room of your house.

We view it as a buffet / coffee bar, but it could also be used as a dresser, or tv stand.

The original, outdated, oak finish was stripped away before being painted in Alabaster by Sherwin-Williams. The top was restained in Antique Walnut Gel Stain by General Finishes. Everything was then given multiple coats of High Performance Top Coat by General Finishes. Once everything was dry, we added new matte black k***s and slightly distressed everything to given it that final modern farmhouse feel.

This vintage Broyhill piece just arrived in the shop this morning. It definitely needs a facelift, but it’s in great structural shape and has SO much character!
