More Rain, More Flooding, & Then We Had a Dry Day, Almost 🤣

The rain just won’t quit.

The farm keeps flooding.

The fences keep getting washed out.

And somehow, I keep finding myself fixing the same fences over and over again. 😂

We’ve also lost some of our best shows of the year because of the weather, which hurts when you’re trying to run a small farm business.

At this point, we’re going to be eating beans and rice…

…and rice and beans. 🤣

But I’ll admit it: even I become a sad sack every now and then.

So I decided to take some of my own advice.

Stop worrying about what I can’t control.

Shut up.

And get done what needs done.

So that’s what I did.

I cleaned up the goat barn that just won’t dry out, cleaned the buck barn, put down 50 pounds of lime between the two spaces, and finally got some hay into the barns.

The weather is going to do whatever the hell it wants.

We might as well keep moving. 🐐💪

🥚😳 WHAT DO YOU CALL THIS?

I’ve had chickens for many, many years, and I’ve seen a LOT of eggs.

But this one stopped me in my tracks.

It came out of the nest with a strange tubular shape, a small bubble-like section in the middle, and an opening at the top.

I’ve never seen an egg quite like this before.

So I’m turning this one over to the chicken people:

🥓💦🐐 BACON P*E

I looked over and Puddin had her nose stuck directly in Sprikles’ p*e on the floor.

Then she did that weird goat thing where they curl their upper lip and basically stand there analyzing the smell.

That’s called the Flehmen response, and goats use it to investigate chemical cues — including information found in urine.

But Puddin wasn’t concerned with all that scientific stuff.

According to Puddin…

It smells like bacon. 🥓😂

BIG GOAT or Tiny Horse… Either way, He’ll Take The Butt Scratches 🤣🐐

Mr. Marlin wasn’t impressed when I threw out the old-school karate chop.
President Snow came over to investigate, and neither one of them seemed particularly concerned.
Marlin gave my finger a sniff and made a half-hearted attempt to nibble it before apparently deciding:
Him is not foods. 😂
So I climbed over him like he was a horse, called him a big stallion, and started scratching him down the side.
Then I found the spot he REALLY liked…
The b***y. 🤣😂🤣
Mr. Marlin thoroughly enjoyed his massage, and honestly, that big boy probably would have stood there all day.

After two days of relentless rain, the creek finally jumped its banks.

And when it did, things changed fast.

The goat bridge we’ve used to get the goats across the creek was destroyed by the flood.

Then the water kept coming.

Before long, we were dealing with flooding around the barn too.

This video takes you through what happened as the creek rose, the bridge disappeared, and the water made its way into the barn.

This is one of those parts of farm life you can’t plan for. You can’t control the weather. You can only deal with what it gives you.

The goats still need cared for.

The barn still needs managed.

And you keep moving.

My Goat Bridge Is Destroyed 😩🌊

After 2 days of relentless rain, the creek finally jumped its banks and the flooding hit the farm hard.

16’ x 8’ goat bridge? Destroyed.

Fence? Gone.

Then the goat barn started flooding.

The goats were safe on high ground while I grabbed a push broom and started pushing water back out of the barn. 😩

It was bad, guys. REALLY bad.

But all the goats are safe. ❤️🐐

I opened the way to the pasture and apparently all 25 goats decided they needed to leave in single file.
