I've kept quiet about this long enough.....
Why "Fake" is a Bad Investment: My Stance on Counterfeit Guitars
Lately, I’ve seen a lot of "Chibsons" and "Fenders" floating around the local market. While the price tag is tempting, I want to be clear about why I will not buy counterfeit guitars to mod and flip—and why you shouldn’t either.
1. It’s a Legal & Ethical Minefield ⚖️
Counterfeits aren't just "budget versions"; they are trademark infringements. Selling them—even with upgraded parts—is illegal in many places. I value my reputation and the integrity of the craft too much to deal in "fakes."
2. Bad Bones = Bad Tone 🪵
You can put boutique pickups and premium hardware on a counterfeit, but you’re still putting "lipstick on a pig."
Mystery Wood: Counterfeits often use soft, unseasoned wood that warps easily.
Structural Integrity: Poor neck joints and truss rod issues make them a nightmare to maintain long-term.
No Resale Value: A real Squier or Epiphone holds value. A fake is worth zero the moment you want to trade it in.
3. Support the Real Innovators 🛠️
When we buy counterfeits, we take away from the brands and luthiers who actually do the R&D to create the instruments we love.
4. My Alternative: The "Sleeper" Build 🚀
Instead of buying fakes, I focus on finding legitimate budget brands (Squier, Epiphone, Yamaha, Sire) and turning them into professional-grade machines.
When you buy from me, you get:
✅ Authenticity: Guaranteed genuine brands.
✅ Premium Upgrades: High-end electronics, hand-soldered wiring, and quality hardware.
✅ Pro Setup: Leveled frets and perfect intonation.
Let’s keep the local gear scene honest and high-quality. Support real craftsmanship, not replicas.
