🐝I had a little extra time yesterday to practice some grafting. I say practice because I don't really have any expectations of the outcome. I'll be happy if one queen cell takes. I will continue to practice until I'm successful.
❤️The goal is to take a 2-3 day old larvae and put it in the little orange cups. These cups will go into a queenless hive. The bees will form queen cells from these little cups.
⭐️This will be cost efficient and I will be able to requeen or replace queens as needed. In time working on great and gentle genetics. 🐝👑

Just a little honey update! It will happen but patience is key with bees. 😊🐝🍯
We are in desperate need of rain. An inch, 1/2 inch...anything!🙏😩
Drought is affecting all of us here in west Texas. It's dry and the wind blows constantly.
The bees are bringing in some nectar into the honey supers but going through it quickly to support the growing colonies.

Walkaway Hive Splits
After a month of waiting, two walk away splits: one successful and one not.
The unsuccessful one has a laying worker. I will give that one eggs, larvae and brood until they make a new queen. 🐝👑 They are spicy queenless bees! 😬
The successful 🙌 one is doing great! Capped brood, larvae and eggs!
I will continue observing them and help them build.💪🐝❤️

Tiny little queen cell cups.🥹 I thought I would try making my own from beeswax, since I will only be needing a few at a time.

It's going to take lots of practice, but I hope by the end of the season I can graft my own queens bees!
This will be cost efficient and keep the apiary running smoothly. 🐝👑
