Dutch and Pennsylvania Dutch! A few weeks ago I finally got to meet Niels Duinker when my family met up with him at the Lancaster Balloon festival. Back in 2017 Niels commissioned me to create a poster. This poster highlights his accomplishment of having the world record for throwing and catching the most shaker cups. A signed version of this poster now hangs in my office at Horst Arts. Thanks Niels Duinker! It was great to catch up—and to catch your show as well!

It’s been about one years since I’ve posted anything. Like many of you, our performing ground to a halt. But my wife and I used the time to relaunch our business. We were kicked out of the space I announced two posts ago and had to find a new location. And that’s exactly what we did. We have a brand new storefront in Manheim, PA called Horst Arts.

It’s a graphic design agency for me, it’s a fine art studio for my wife, and it’s an events venue. It’s beautiful, and it’s a dream come true. We spent four months completely renovating the space. We’re especially excited about the events. We offer fun ladies-night-out crafting events, we offer parent-child creative experiences, we offer educational roundtables on everything from web design to color theory, and we even offer a very unique reality-tv-show-style arts & crafts competition called The Great Create, which has proven to be a huge hit!

What about Joculare? For the short-term it’s on hiatus until we get back on our feet as we invested a lot into this venture. But longer term, I’m excited for what this means for Joculare. It’s still a strong passion of mine. I have plans.

If any of you find yourself near Manheim (just north of Lancaster, PA), you are invited to stop in. My office continues to be covered in Joculare artwork. Come check it out—buy a print off the wall if you’d like! But most importantly, just stop in and say hello and talk shop. It would be an honor.

Joculare has been silent. Late last year my wife (a collage fine artist) and I (a designer and web developer) combined our businesses under the name Horst Arts and opened a storefront in Manheim, PA. That process has been very exciting and has taken all my attention.

So what of Joculare? I'm hopeful this will be a good move for Joculare as well. In the photos you'll see the office space is adorned with my poster designs. But Joculare will be changing. It will still be focused on juggling, but the products may take a different form. And while I've enjoyed creating commissions for a number of you, that's something I'll likely be moving away from (though , I haven't forgotten you).

I love my Joculare side gig, and I'm looking forward to focusing on the aspects that I enjoy the most and am passionate about. Thanks to Albert Lucas () for his shared wisdom and inspiration in this matter. And thanks to everyone who has supported me over the years. It's a very small niche, so I appreciate each one of you. This is the original 5-piece Joculare poster series which will be in today’s silent auction. The series originally featured a brief write-up on each artist. But when Michael Chirrick scolded me for not going into detail about why Francis and Lottie stopped performing together, I realized these blurbs were going to be a headache and eliminated them.
