πŸ€“ A 1st barrel pocket exercise I came up with a year or 2 ago that helped me out. Maybe you're a beginner or your new horse is 2-3 levels/Ds up from what you're used to. It's the concept of if you can do it faster than the actual experience, the actual will seem slower/easier. I speeded things up without compromising my horse, by training my vision.

Telephone pole exercise: Also helpful for running out of a blind alleyway. If you're a passenger going down the highway, 55-65 mph & there are telephone poles, at every pole, visually lock in on where your pocket is if that pole was first barrel. (If need be, start with every other pole.) From the photo you get an idea of how fast you will be finding your pocket compared to your actual run.
If you need to call a friend up & ask if they can drive you up & down the highway so you can practice barrels, post in the comments what their reaction is! πŸ˜‚

A tip! (Pun intended)
1st barrel went down today. I had a timing belt issue.😁 Wanted to make an adjustment because yesterday's time was high for us in that arena. What I didn't account forπŸ₯΄ was if you are adding something to the equation, mentally you need to speed up & make sure your to-dos are in the correct order.πŸ’‘ From where we personally take off, I have close to 3 seconds to 1st barrel & beat myself there turning a little too soon catching the barrel going in.

πŸ‰Dragons are herd animals. Who knew?! If there's one thing that can make or break a business it's customer service & one of many things Samler Equestrian Supply is not close to lacking in! Stop by & check them out this weekend at the race. I picked up another one of their soft halters.
Last night I stayed until the end of the race. The parking lot had cleared out so Sox was letting me know, audibly & visually, from across the parking lot,πŸ”πŸ™ˆ that she is a herd animal & ALONE but I do the best I can to see to her comfort. πŸ˜‚πŸ‰
Thank you Samler Equestrian Suppy so much!

Lowe's is having a pretty descent sale on appliances. This means you can get a new refrigerator/freezer & move your current one to the barn for "vet supplies" (adult beverages)! πŸ€—πŸ˜πŸ»

I hope everyone who is at the Twisted Classic Race in Lincoln, put on by Twisted Turn N Burn, is having a fun & safe weekend! For some it may be the first race of the year but it is still the beginning of 2026. If you don't already, I encourage you to start documenting your races (by year). I have done this from the start & it really helps to see progress when we can get to thinking that we still aren't where we want to be & what we need to look at to get there. It can also indicate if you are having any consistent trouble at a particular barrel or if you've hit a plateau on your times.
For example if I were at this race I'd have this arena set-up on a page of it's own. (Lincoln - small arena holding pen - Sox (horse's name.)) Below that Date: Time: (or NT3rd meaning a no time & what barrel I knocked down.) D: (what D did I place in.) Place: (even if it's 51st, what place did you end up in, in that D.) Money: (money won) 1D1st: (1D first place. This is for the fastest time in that arena that won the 1D that day.) Though our time is a byproduct / result of our riding, it tells you the gap in seconds you need to close if you want to be in that 1st place in the 1D spot. I also have a page called Fast Times that also tracks by year & horse. It has all of the arenas listed that I regularly run in & my fastest time for that year. Consider this a map of where you currently are to where you want to be & how far you've come & start tracking your 2026 progress.πŸ’ Hope to see everyone at the March race!

Welcome, welcome new followers & thank you so much!!! We are at 101 so I think it's time for a drawing for some free merch - soon to come.
What I wanted to pass on, in competition if you want to go from 'I hope this works!' to 'I've got this!' keep reading. This is one of the ways to feel more confident about yourself when you're waiting for your name to be called to take off for 1st barrel or before you start riding in front of judges. I was skeptical of this but tried it & it worked. Start treating/respecting yourself just a little 🀏 better! It doesn't have to take much effort - it's one of the ways the 80/20 rule works - it's the little things. For example when you go to have leftovers, don't just warm it up in the plastic container that's in the fridge, take out a plate for yourself & warm up your serving on that. You may think 'Oh it's just me it doesn't matter. ' but it does. Our minds are connected to us physically. Your thoughts = your results. When you start taking a little better care of yourself in these little ways, it transfers over into your competition & you start to feel like you have your back out there because you follow through outside of the arena in other ways. Just please try it where you are cutting yourself short with some things. Thank you everyone for a fun weekend & your support!!! Thank you Twisted TURN N BURN for providing the vendor opportunity! We had a really successful weekend!
πŸ–ŠNotes were taken on what sold out & how to improve the boutique experience for you. This is something I would like to continue to do. If you put on races or know of people who do who are looking for vendors, please have them reach out.
***To the girl who stopped by who was a little nervous running because she had a young horse who looks around, I hope you had a good weekend. With your awareness of the situation & exposure, I'd bet you made some ground by Sunday's end. πŸ’
