Rock Garden in Process. My fun garden.

June already and Lillies, Echinasia, and Blanket flower is coming into bloom. Shrub trimming begins next week, at least for us. I think it good to wait until the shrubs have new growth on them before trimming. Most of my clients agree with trimming shrubs in mid June.

New Study: Last year I began an independent study on the benefits of pre-emergent to irradicate unwanted w**ds in the garden. Thus far, among those who have permitted us to apply w**d preventer to their gardens on a regular basis, we have found that by applying pre-emergent in the fall, in February, and again in April the w**ding was cut by 75 percent. Also, while Pre-emergent does not seem to prevent tree seeds from sprouting, it does work on most other common garden w**ds. Finally, we will apply pre-emerrgent bi-monthly as directed, on these gardens through June, and again in the fall. I am hopeful that this method will cut w**ding by 90 percent by next year.

On Thistle Erradication: In answer to questions by customers on getting rid of the pesky w**d, Thistle, the best way that we have discovered thus far is to paint herbicide on them. Two weeks later, walla, no more thistle in the garden, and the desired plants are saved from the lethal dose. For those who like some thistle in their gardens, this is also a reliable method for keeping them from taking over other plants.

We welcome any of your gardening questions.

FYI Post: Anti-Desiccant spray is uprimarily used to protect evergreen trees from winter burn. Whether it actually works or not remain inconclusive at this time.

So February of this year was a good time to begin pre-emergant appications to reduce w**ds. March of this year is a great time to pull any existing w**ds in your graden before they seed.. If you havent applied pre-emergent apply it after w**ding and mulch ASAP. With the warm weather, we are mulching early this year. Mulching as soon as possible after pulling w**ds will assist in less w**ding later. Other than that I would suggest waiting until late April or May to begin prunning shrubs, as frost is likely to cause browning if prunned too early.

Anyone with bulbs? If you live in a rural area it is advisable to apply deer deterrent around the bulbs at this time. Let us know if we can assist you in your gardening and landscape needs.

February: Recommendations for Flower Gardens in Ohio. February is the month to begin applying Pre-emergent to ward off those pesky w**ds. Left untreated, they pull nutrients from your planted shrubs and flowers, leaving them dull and sparse. Also, it is time to apply deer deterrent around bulbs and other tender plants, particularly in rural areas where hungry Deer graze. Healing Gardens does provide these and other landscape services such as w**ding, prunning, trimming, design, and maintenance, and removal of Poison Ivy and other invasive plant species.
