Stoplight for Safety I am working towards getting a stoplight at Sunnyslope and Riverside Dr. in Sherman Oaks

My name is Milan Sass and I am a 6th Grader in the Civics Program at Millikan Middle School and I am working towards getting a Stoplight and Crosswalk at a very dangerous intersection at the corner of Sunnyslope and Riverside in Sherman Oaks, CA

This area is a school zone and there is no School Zone speed limit. Students bike and walk across at this intersection to get to Notre Dame High School

and Millikan Middles School. Folks in the neighborhood including families with children, older folks and dog owners cross Riverside at this intersection to go walking and bike riding in the neighborhood or to shop at the businesses on Riverside. Pedestrians have to wait a long time for cars to clear or stop to allow for crossing safely at this intersection. Cars waiting on Sunnyslope to pull out East or West bound often have to wait and exorbitant amount of time to get on to Riverside and they often go fast and make risky turns to beat the cars racing down Riverside (often going more than the posted speed limit of 40MPH). Cars get backed up sometimes more than a block up Sunnyslope waiting to turn. Having a Stoplight would serve to slow traffic, reduce accidents on Riverside, ease morning and afternoon congestion, and make for safer more efficient crossing conditions for pedestrians

Riverside is still bad even with or because of the new parking structure. A crosswalk with a light at the corner would help during morning and afternoon school commutes.

Cars get backed up on Sunnyslope and make dangerous turns on to Riverside from Sunnyslope. Even on quiet Sunday afternoons, it is dangerous to cross because drivers race down Riverside and it is hard to get them to stop to allow for a safe crossing
