So. Yeah. That's a lot. Especially if you’re travelling through the Seattle metro area. Tons of events and two major closures (northbound I-5 in Seattle & both directions of SR 18 at I-90). Start planning now.
-Revive I-5 is back, and it's the Big One: NB I-5 in Seattle is CLOSED between I-90 & NE 45th St starting at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, July 18, through 5 a.m. Monday, July 21. The express lanes will run northbound all weekend & downtown express lane ramps will stay open to everyone. If you’re headed downtown, use Edgar Martinez Drive, Dearborn, James or Madison exits — or eastbound I-90 to Rainier. The I-90 off-ramps to northbound I-5 will close, too.
-When northbound I-5 reopens on Monday, July 21, lane reductions will stick around until Aug. 15. Then we’ll have another full closure to pick everything up. The Express Lanes will continue to run northbound only for the next four weeks.
-We’re also closing SR 18 at the I-90 interchange near Snoqualmie for eight days, beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, July 17. SR 18/Snoqualmie Pkwy under the I-90 bridges will be closed around-the-clock through 5 a.m. Friday, July 25. Only right turns will be allowed at the interchange, so expect delays using the detours. This is so we can open the new diverging diamond interchange, the second one in the state.
-On top of that, there are MULTIPLE events taking place in Seattle this weekend, including sports games, music festivals & more. Expect SIGNIFIGANT delays through this area, so leave early and take transit, if you can.
-Heading to Mumford & Sons at The Gorge? Be prepared for... let's all say it together now... significant delays. One lane is closed on the I-90 Vantage Bridge in each direction as we make critical repairs & replace the bridge deck. This means long crossing times and long backups. Your best bet is to leave early or take one of the detour routes. There Will Be Time to get there but give yourself plenty of it.
It's a lot. We know it. We sit in this traffic, too. This work allows us to keep our roads in good shape for years to come. Good luck out there and enjoy your weekend.
