It all started with one little piece of rock. 🪨

When Western New York artist Richard “Sean” Manning purchased rock excavated from beneath Buffalo’s new football stadium for a waterfall exhibit at his art studios, a small piece broke off.

Sean stuck it in his pocket.

And after carrying it around for a few days, he noticed something pretty incredible: the rock had turned jet black.

The natural oils from his hands had begun transforming the stone—deepening its color and giving it a smoother, polished appearance the more it was handled.

That little discovery sent Sean and his wife and co-founder, Laura Jean, digging into the geology and history of the stadium bedrock…and eventually sparked what would become Buffalo Stadium Stones. ❤️💙

That’s part of what makes our Rub Rocks so special. When yours arrives, it may be a lighter slate gray—but carry it, rub it, hold it, and make it part of your everyday life, and you’ll get to watch your own piece of Buffalo history change with you.
Pretty cool for something that started with a rock in a pocket. 😉
