One of our notable sound experiments was called PURE. The Elm PURE shell features a steam bent design that eliminates the need for glued support rings; instead, we machined a thinner shell wall, leaving a thicker mass at each bearing edge, resulting in a lighter shell that produces a deeper fundamental note and increased resonance compared to a standard steam bent shell.

We continually explore innovative designs to optimize sound performance. The Rx Kit represents one such experiment, pairing 3/8” thick stave Bubinga shells with suspended aluminum rings, which are unencumbered by hardware components, allowing them to resonate freely.

This our Elm PURE steam bent snare, named as such because it doesn’t have glued reinforcement rings; rather, we precision-mill the shell wall to be thinner while maintaining greater mass at the bearing edges. The result is a much lighter shell that produces a deeper fundamental tone with nice resonance.
