Space Race (2-6 players) X-Wing Alternate Format
Race Rules:
Special Items: Extra Range 2 rulers, 1-5 Objective tokens
Setup: Using Range 2 rulers as ‘gates’ players work together to set a race course by placing gates and determining the direction of each gate. Next players place obstacles anywhere in the play area. Obstacles cannot be placed with in range 1 of another obstacle, be placed overlapping the narrow edges of the ‘gates’ or in the player set up area. If you are using Type-A Orbital Mines (See object rules below), players work together to place them in the play area in this step. Players place ships at range 1- 2 directly behind the start gate following normal player and initiative order.
All Ships must completely pass through all gates in the correct direction.
Ships cannot attack or drop/launch devices until after crossing the first gate.
If a ships movement template or final position overlaps the narrow edge of a gate, then that ship suffers 1 damage. (Pilots that fly too close dramatically scrape their hulls on the edge of the gate. These risky maneuvers are definitely crowd pleasers but can leave the pilots exposed to attacks from the other racers.)
At the end of the end phase, any destroyed ship placed in front of the last gate it completed at range 0, facing the same direction of the gate and cannot overlap any other objects. Only shield tokens are recovered.
Winning: The winning ship is the ship that has made it the farthest past the finish gate at the start of the end phase. Note that the victory condition is checked before replacing destroyed ships. Any ships that are destroyed after completely crossing the finish gate are replaced as normal at the end of the end phase in front of the finish gate.
Special Action:
A ship may assign 1 Stress and 1 Strain Token to itself to attempt a White Boost or Barrel Roll Action at the end of the ships activation. If your ship has a white Boost or Barrel Roll you may remove one stress token.
SLAM Action:
Ships may not perform the SLAM action. Ships that have a SLAM action are treated as have a boost action of the same color. This does not ban any ships that have the SLAM action, it just prohibits the actions use.
Type A Orbital Mines:
Objective tokens are used to represent this remote.
Initiative 0, Primary attack of 2 with a Full Front and Full Rear attack arc (360 arc). 1 agility and 2 health.
After an enemy ship moves through or overlaps this remote, or if it is destroyed, all ships at range 0-1 of this remote suffer 1 damage, then this remote is removed.
Engagement Phase: This remote performs an attack against the nearest non-remote enemy ship.
Race recommendations:
It is recommended that all players use the same base size for their ships to keep movement distances even. Small base ships around 65 point seems the most fun, however any ship size and point limit is acceptable.
For multiple lap races, the start gate can also be the finish gate.
Ships may recover chargers on upgrade cards after they cross the start/finish line when having races with multiple laps.
For 4-6 players, each player should fly 1 ship.
For 2-3 players, each player should fly two ships. A player only needs 1 of their ships to completely cross the finish gate to win.
For 2 players, each player can control 3 ships. A player needs to have 2 of their ships cross the finish gate to win.
