Finding a way to make something functional out of a chunk of unusable material (see last photo) is so much fun. The process in the previous video shows how I convert this chunk into a functional piece of art.

Pyrography has always facilitated me and so I wanted to incorporating it with my carvings. This is my first attempt at doing just that and honestly I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’ve learned many years ago not to be intimidated by what you don’t know and never be afraid of trying it regardless. You never know unless you try.

Sometimes I find species of wood in my shop that I just can’t identify. I believe this vase may be made of Mahogany or Sapele, or I’m totally off, which is almost always the case 😂. Anyhow, I first turned with the lathe and then carved it using shaping wheeI with my angle grinder. I then burned some texture at the bottom to bring a hint of interest. Fun little vase.
