Piece & Cut Patchwork Quilting

Piece & Cut Patchwork Quilting Free quilt shortcut tutorials and lots of quilting fun! I have developed several quick easy shortcuts to making units of a quilt block.

I love to share what I have discovered. I also want to share the products I offer on my websites. I wrote 4 EBooks that go into more detail about some of my shortcut methods. I make miniature patchwork gift items for sale and have a mix of some free info and some products to offer.

Star Point Blocks are one of my favorite shortcut blocks. They can create some really great looking quilt blocks.

Once you know how to make the star point block then you can make the blocks in the colors needed to make any of my original quilt blocks that use the star point block.

you will need a template with a 30 degree angle and a 2 1/2" template to cut the shortcut block out.

You can find the directions for the star point block here -
- http://www.piecencutpatchwork.com/star-point-tutorial

Here are 3 of my quilt blocks. I also show the layout of the individual blocks so you can see how to lay them and where the colors go. Just sew them into rows or 4 patches until you have the quilt block constructed.

If you need more detailed instructions just let me know and I'll be happy to help.

I am having fun designing tablerunners. Which could also be used as wall hangings depending on the size you make it.
Patterns will be coming in the near future for these two tablerunners.

I turned my favorite bookmark pattern into a tablerunner. Haven't written a pattern yet but it won't be very complicated LOL

A friend of mine said you know the quilt block doesn't have to be 12 1/2" - I've always aimed for that size as a general rule. so I took her advice and here is my Boston Braid Tablerunner. I'm debating on the size the blocks should be. 8" would make it 16" x 56" without borders. Course you could use 7 blocks as I did or you could use 5 or 6 to make it not so long.

These are boston blocks. the color and placement gives you the braid look.
The second one is another bookmark pattern I used alot. I love how it looks in a tablerunner.

I spend wayyy too much time in my EQ playing LOL

Ok Sorry for not keeping this current. Will try to do better!

I have 3 quilt patterns available and I am working on more.
Rt now they are not instant downloads. I may go back to that but for now you can email me at [email protected] and let me know what you would like and I can email them to you.

They are $5.50 each and I prefer paypal tho I will take personal checks if you contact me. Just use my email in paypal. Make sure you let me know if you pay through paypal as I can't tell on there what you ordered.
Refund available for 7 days after you receive the pattern.

I try to be available for any questions or to help you if you don't understand something. You will need a template to make these quilts. Rt now I don't have a source for getting more templates so I am working on figuring out how to get more. if I can't then I hope to offer a site where you can purchase a 2 1/2" template. But hopefully I can still provide them for free soon.

April BOM - of course one of my own original designs.

I actually had another quilt block planned but I really like this one so much I wanted to share it now instead of next month.

This is one of my favorites to come out of my playing on my EQ.

This one uses my 4 patch squares shortcut block.

cut out 4 strips. cut them just a bit larger than half of the size of your template. make sure to include a seam allowance.
cut off the length you need and trim the ends even.
sew 2 sets together. cut out the center with a template.

Feb 2016 BOMs

This quilt block is made with the same star point block used in the Jan BOM. You can see the directions in the Jan BOM post.

IN this BOM I broke the 6 x 6 grid down into 4 9 patches. so make 4 of the 9 patch block and then sew those 4 into a 12 1/2" quilt block. You will need a template. If you need one send your postal address and request a 2 1/2' template to make a 12 1/2" quilt block. I also have 1 1/2" which will make a 6 1/2" quilt block.

My version of the Drunkard's Path Block

Directions for making this block my way with my piece n cut method. You can use any size square template you like.
If you are using one of my designs with 6 rows of 6 blocks each then a 2 1/2" template will make a 12 1/2" unfinished quilt block.

To make this block you will make a flat yoyo first. I use a 2" cardboard circle for my yoyos. then cut a circle of fabric at least 1/4" larger than you're cardboard circle. Use a runnning thread and sew around the edge of the fabric circle. Draw this up inserting the cardboard in the center on the under side of the fabric. pull the thread tight around the cardboard. holding it tight spray it on both sides with sizing. I like to soak it so it is really stiff.
I iron it flat after spraying on both sides. then let dry for several hours or as I prefer overnight. Leave at least 2-3" of thread

Next take out the cardboard. If you let it dry overnight it will be easy to pull the thread back so the circle is once again even.
Place the yoyo onto a background fabric. Place it under your needle and slowly sew as you move the yoyo under your needle. It really isn't that hard to do. this is the only curved sewing you'll do.

Then lay your square with the yoyo on a cutting mat. follow the cutting directions in the pictoral below.
