THE SKY CAUGHT FIRE .. AND LEFT A RAINBOW

It happened at sunset on the Oregon Coast, when a storm edge pulled back and the last light hit the clouds from underneath.

The deep reds come from low-angle sunlight traveling through more atmosphere at sunset, letting warm colors dominate. Then, with rain still hanging in the distance, that same sunlight met the droplets at the right angle and formed a rainbow arc β€” bright enough to cut through the darkness like a painted blade.

The reason it feels so intense: two layers at once β€” storm shadows above, sunset light below β€” and just enough rain left to make color.

Where you can catch scenes like this in the USA:

Oregon & Washington coasts β€” fast-changing weather + dramatic sunsets

Northern California coast β€” marine layer breaks after showers

Florida & Gulf Coast β€” sunshowers near sunset
Best timing: right after a passing shower, during the last 10–15 minutes of daylight.
