I 2001 it was discovered that a species of jumping spider in Mexico feeds on plants. As time went on, more related species were discovered including one in 2009 of a jumping spider that eats only the leaves of plants. More specifically a special part of the leaf tip of the acacia tree. These tips are called Beltian bodies and the tree makes them to attract ants so the ants will protect the trees. We'll, it was discovered that a species of jumping spider lives almost exclusively on these tips, while eating the occasional ant larva. It turns out that many jumpingn pideres eat plant matter including the one pictured that is munching on water mellon. Others eat sap, necter, and pollen.
