Fun fact for your Friday: the word "thyme" comes from the Greek thymos β€” meaning spirit, soul, or courage. Roman soldiers bathed in thyme water to invoke bravery before battle, and in the Middle Ages, ladies embroidered sprigs of thyme onto scarves for their knights. Centuries later, herbalists still consider thyme an herb of courage and resolve β€” a beautiful ally when fear or self-doubt creep in. Not bad for the little jar sitting in your spice rack! Where does thyme show up in your life β€” kitchen, garden, or teacup?

Ginkgo biloba is a living fossil β€” the species has existed for over 200 million years, and individual trees can live more than a thousand. Traditionally used to support healthy circulation, memory, and mental focus, ginkgo is the ally I suggest when you're feeling scattered or overwhelmed: it helps you see the big picture and stay on course toward your goals. Fitting, for a tree that has stayed its own course longer than almost anything alive on Earth. Is ginkgo part of your routine?

Mugwort might be the most storied herb in the Western tradition. Its botanical name, Artemisia, honors the goddess Artemis β€” and for centuries it has been treasured as an herb of vision, intuition, and vivid dreams. Herbalists and folk traditions turn to mugwort in teas, spiritual baths, and incense before setting intentions, as an ally for reconnecting with inner guidance when the next step feels unclear. When life gets noisy, mugwort is a reminder to slow down and listen inward. Have you ever worked with mugwort?

New on the blog: Herbs & Oils to Help You Live a Purpose-Driven, Heart-Centered Life. Your plant allies for the path: mugwort for vision and intuition, ashwagandha for resilience and grounding, thyme for courage and strength, and ginkgo for mental clarity and focus β€” plus my favorite essential oils for alignment, from grounding frankincense to heart-opening rose (external use only, always diluted). Because living your purpose isn't about pushing harder; it's about aligning more deeply.

Living with purpose isn't just a mindset β€” it's a daily practice. And let's be honest: life gets noisy, stressful, and overwhelming, and it's easy to lose touch with who we really are. Fun fact for your Friday: turkey tail might be the most common mushroom you've never noticed. Those fan-shaped shelves with colorful banded stripes growing on dead logs β€” the ones you've walked past on countless hikes β€” are named for their resemblance to a wild turkey's tail feathers. In Japan it's called kawaratake, "mushroom by the riverbank." For centuries it has been one of the most respected mushrooms in traditional herbal practice for immune support, and it was under your nose the whole time. Will you spot it on your next walk?
