Objects & Histories
I fill my studio shop with objects that carry stories. Here are a few:
1) Folk Art Caddy
I love this piece. The old wood, the deep colors of the hand-painted vegetables, the worn patina. I imagine someone used this to hold their favorite small gardening tools and seeds, and then tucked it away on a shelf when winter came, waiting until those first robins arrived and a new growing season began.
2) Reclaimed Wood Heart
Made from reclaimed barn wood decades ago, this little heart is a reminder that beautiful things can be created from materials that have moved on from their original purpose.
3) Vintage Japanese Trays
Alcohol-proof trays from Japan were popular in the mid-20th century for serving cocktails because the special coating made their designs resistant to spills. I picture an elegant, caftan-clad hostess circa 1963, serving Mai Tais to her guests outside by the pool. Despite the effects of age and wear, these little trays still have their beautiful floral designs.
Every piece in the collection has history, beauty and is waiting to live a new life. Come see them at the studio. Doors are open again this First Friday, March 6, 6–9 PM.
