Last week’s visit to Santa Fe started with a double rainbow - an energy felt the entire trip.

Back home now, back into the rituals of making chocolate, after attending the Women’s Cacao Summit, which felt like a whirlwind of inspiration, and which left me carrying a deep sense of gratitude and momentum.

Cacao continues to be both teacher and connector—bringing craft, art, and remarkable people into a space of intention and purpose. I am so moved to be able to make those connections, amidst stories, knowledge, meals, and chocolate.

Grateful to learn from and share time with , ,
Dr. Patricia Crown, who, to my surprise, shared that evidence of cacao has been found in ancient vessels not just in New Mexico’s storied Chaco Canyon, but also here in Arizona.

And to experience the incredible work of

Thank you to each and every one of you. Especially to the summit’s organizer and curator, Sophia Rea , whose beauty, intelligence, and creativity ever inspires.

Ever grateful to the spirit of cacao bringing us all together.

Very pleased to share our latest collaboration — a locally made drinking vessel crafted with the same care and intention as our chocolate. We asked Madeleine Sophia , artist and herbalist of Mija Apothecary / Bluebird Farms, to create a cup designed to carry our drinking chocolate through your intentional moments of enjoyment and pause. Drawing inspiration from darker clay bodies found in Mexican ceramics and Korean celadon, Madeleine crafted each vessel by hand and stamped it with both the Bluebird Farms bird icon and SUNA. Satisfying to the touch, beautiful to the eye, one-of-a-kind, and very limited. We are offering the cup as part of a gift pack with a tin of one of our organic dark drinking chocolates — either 72% Semuliki Forest / Uganda, or 70% Zorzal / Dominican Republic.

Farewell desert summer! This weekend we wrap up the season at the Sedona Community Farmers Market. It’s been no small feat to make and sell chocolate in the Arizona summer, honestly the intense heat left me questioning how I can do what I do. Seeing the beautiful produce and flowers grown here in the Verde Valley during summer harvest gave me the inspiration I needed and was a reminder of what I truly love about farmers markets and why I love seeing visitors at my market booth. I was honored to be included in Edible Magazine’s feature this summer on the Sedona Community Farmers Market. Going to farmers markets on Sundays has been my ritual for decades, first as a shopper at the many markets in Los Angeles, and now here in Arizona with my own booth as a chocolate maker! It’s been a true joy for me to share chocolate made from scratch, from the bean, and to work with local ingredients, and to make chocolate inspired by the seasons. Summer inspired us to conceive of new ways to cool off with chocolate beyond our iced drinks. We created ice pops for the first time with locally grown fruits, sometimes with our chocolate, sometimes without. We spent time at the creek whenever we could. We continued to make a lot of chocolate chip cookies. We made vegan and cream mousses and ate them in the moonlight to celebrate a friend’s birthday. So many memories from this summer—of remarkable produce, collaborations, hangouts—thank you , , Mario’s peaches and apples, , . And a big thank you to everyone who supported us and felt the heat with us this summer season. We made it! Now excited for the new season and the inspirations that it brings. Winter market hours start next weekend, on November 2, with new market hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Summer’s in full swing, and so naturally, we’ve been keeping our people cool with ice pops! We let the seasons guide us in re-aligning our weekly offerings at local farmers’ markets. At work in our ice pops is the same obsession and craft that goes into making our chocolate. We’re loving figuring out great ways to turn the best of the market into cold treats that will refresh and delight on the hottest of summer days. Peaches grown in Oak Creek and Cottonwood? Plums and corn from Camp Verde? Many of our popular drinks are now also available in ice pop form — even our unique lions mane vanilla cream, using mushrooms grown in Cornville. It may get hot in Arizona, but here in the Verde Valley, there is plenty growing locally to stay cool in tasty wholesome ways. Thank you to everyone who has visited us at the market and enjoyed our ice pops, and especially to local growers who bring your produce to markets, both groups pictured here!

Summer season is upon us in more ways than the ever-warming weather! Our local Sedona Community Farmers’ Market officially changes its hours starting with tomorrow’s market — 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. — to accommodate rising temperatures. We’re excited to switch up our market offerings for summer with more choices on the cold side. Excited to have worked up an iced version of every hot drink we make at our chocolate bar. And make sure to check out the new menu of hand-crafted sodas, iced teas, frozen pops, and puddings.

Looking forward to making the most of summer season with you!

With any luck, soon the desert landscape will erupt with spring colors. Inspired by the season’s beauty that signals life and renewal, we introduce our newest celebration of spring. We’re calling the bar Bloom and it pairs our dark chocolate made from single origin Wild Bolivia cacao with white mulberries and a vibrant selection of botanicals including Arizona bee pollen and locally grown calendula and cornflower. Always excited about local creativity, we are so happy to be working with flowers grown and dried at by Madeleine Sophia for use in her Mija Apothecary, and now, also for our chocolate. Look for our Bloom in stock .az in Rimrock and at the Sedona Community Farmers Market, and just like spring season itself, we’ll see where things lead from there.
