Batgirl Special #1 (1988)
Barbara Gordon’s final mission as Batgirl before the events that would redefine her legacy.
———————————————————————————————
Published by DC Comics in July 1988. Written by Barbara Kesel and Mike W. Barr, penciled by Carmine Infantino, inked by Dick Giordano, colored by Carl Gafford, with cover art by Mike Mignola and Karl Kesel.
Set shortly before the events of The Killing Joke, this one-shot follows Barbara Gordon as she confronts the limits of her role as Batgirl while investigating political corruption tied to her father, Commissioner James Gordon. Facing escalating danger and questioning her future, Barbara weighs her independence against the expectations placed upon her both as a crimefighter and as the commissioner’s daughter. Featuring artwork by Batgirl co-creator Carmine Infantino, the issue serves as a reflective farewell to the Bronze Age incarnation of the character and stands as a notable transitional chapter in her publication history.
