They look like normal rocks…

They are Japanese finger polishing stones called Yaginoshima Suita

Closed Tanba mine, legendary reputation. The “su” pores in this layer release fresh abrasive as you work — clean cutter, around 4,000–6,000 grit. A pre-finisher that pulls a bright kasumi on knives.
