So I did a thing. 😊
My sleep frustrations have been well documented—I can’t stand doom-scrolling in bed for hours. It always leaves me feeling so unproductive and wasteful. And with my mom’s diagnosis, there’s been a lot of hospital and clinic waiting—more quiet time than I knew what to do with. I knew I needed something, I just wasn’t sure what.
My friends suggested doodling before bed because it’s supposed to help you sleep (it didn’t). So I started doodling on my tablet… and somehow that turned into me designing cross stitch patterns. It’s actually really hard—I have no idea how designers make it look so effortless—but I’ve been having fun with it. And as a bonus, it makes my eyes tired so I sleep a little better when I do fall back to sleep.
This was the first piece I designed. I’ve actually made a few more as part of a seasonal series, and my dad created a kind of hornbook-style board for them. It could definitely be better, but I love that years from now I’ll be able to look at this piece in my decor and remember how my dad and I worked together to bring it to life. 🥹
