Hand crafted functional art made by hand in the USA 🇺🇸. It becomes harder and harder to find enough time in a 24hr day to get to all the projects I have going on finished. Often pushing away my own personal projects. The craftsmanship that goes into rod building or any other craftsmanship, is hard to grasp at times. We spend hours upon hours for little to no money at times but; still love it. This is not what pays my bills but; what keeps my sanity. Most of us work regular jobs 40-50hr a week and additional 20-40hrs hand building rods.

Been hibernating during this cold winter we are having in Florida. Finally back in the shop. Looking forward to warmer days. Coating rods was virtually impossible in my non insulated or heated shed. Hands too numb to even wrap rods. Just started this one, wild colors and components.

Viewer discretion advised, bloody decks! Working aboard the fishing vessel Cobalt, out of fisherman’s landing San Diego California 2 years ago. Multiple bluefin well over 200+ lbs were caught this day. 2.5 days trip with nothing but action. From daytime kite, live bait fly line to night time deep drop jigging these bluefin kept biting. Worked aboard this vessel for 6 months with nothing but action everyday.

The process, which not much see or understand. All the colors and designs seen on custom rods, is actually thread in several different diameters. Precision measurements and tedious thread wrapping. This is just one of the elements involved in this craft. Many more aspects to rod building from guides spacing to epoxy multi layer coating.
