It’s attempted to carve a niche in the market that is inclusive, open-minded and straightforward. Originally started in New York City in 2011, the aim was to deliver quality-made, progressive boards. At the time, SALT SURF was run entirely out of a single room that functioned as a studio, showroom, office and bedroom. Since those early days, SALT SURF has grown out of that small studio, but still

maintains it’s original vision. With boards made in California, and the founder himself a native Californian, SALT SURF is strongly influenced by New York and California cultures.

On this, the 12 year anniversary of SALT SURF, I’m checking in to say hi. You may have noticed the silence for a while now. Just like the ocean and everything in nature, there are ebbs and flows. Seasons. Currently SALT SURF is in an ebb. It’s time for a break and some realignment.

The brand has always operated as more of an art project than a business. Making un-strategic moves, waiting for intuition and inspiration, allowing timing to dictate decisions rather than forcing what is not meant to be. So, i’m currently embracing the pause and this moment to reflect on what is next.

But rest assured, if you’d like to make any purchases, the online store is still up and running!

Personally, as of late i’ve been inspired as a photographer. I’ve felt a stronger pull to create images and i’m excited to continue sharing my upcoming work and connecting with you all in this way… and perhaps even working together! So please follow along

My end of year reflections usually happen a little late. Well into January. This past year was full of a lot of things. There was a lot of stillness. Calling it stillness might actually be giving it too much credit. It was actually more like stuckness. A lot of the year felt almost like just waiting for something. There were some moments of movement. Creativity. Sometimes creativity paired up with productivity and there was a creation. Sometimes creativity looked like presence and stillness. It was a humbling year. I cried a lot (happy and sad tears… weddings, deaths, joys, heartbreaks…). I said the phrase S**U a few too many times (mostly in my head). I tried to get buff. Some new relationships came. Some went. A lot of wonderful friends helped make this year a lot more beautiful. I wish i could list all of you. Gratitude was present a lot. I think the prior years taught me to be thankful for everything because everything can be lost. So, in the past year it felt easier to be grateful, even when it sucked. Truthfully, and this isn’t a marketing thing, surfing got me through a lot in this past year. It was a consistent place to turn to. Beauty was always present in surfing.

There isn’t a pretty bow to put on this past year. Its not wrapped up nicely. It was complex. Multifaceted. But, grateful for it all nonetheless. ♥️ u all.

We're small. The very first SALT SURF customers came to shop for surfboards out of our Brooklyn apartment. It was kinda cute, but also kind of embarrassing. I remember I had gone out the night before and had barely slept and here we were with a stranger in our apartment who was expecting a legitimate shop, and kind of surprised to be standing there with me in my pajamas. A lot has changed since then, 11 years ago. But, SALT SURF has done its best to retain its core values of staying small, trying to create an inclusive space in the surf world and making quality goods. Oh yeah and always being NICE AND COOL.

We're still, for the most part, a one man show. We don't really follow seasons and only really make stuff when we're excited about it. We still manufacture everything in the US. And we still try and surf more than we work (we believe in a bad work ethic).

So, thank you for supporting this journey and thanks for allowing us to run our business in a non-businessy way for the past 11 years. Excited for the next weird and exciting 11 years to come :)
