They are important for so many reasons including biodiversity, wildlife protection, environmental education, ecological studies, and recreation for hikers, campers, and photographers like myself. Just like Friday the 13th, ravens have a history of being known as a bad omen. However these incredible birds are one of, if not the smartest birds on the planet! One study believes that at only four months old, they have the cognitive intelligence that rivals adult great apes! They know how to use tools, mimic sounds, solve puzzles, and can even hold a grudge! Here is hoping your Friday the 13th is filled with all the good luck and perhaps a visit from the corvid family!
