If you’re trying to attract woodpeckers, this setup has been incredibly reliable for us 🐦‍⬛

We’ve been using the Mr. Woodpecker feeder for about five years, paired with “tree icing”—a spreadable suet that you can apply directly to the feeder or even onto tree bark (no microwave needed).

If you’re using regular suet, a quick 10–20 seconds in the microwave makes it easy to spread.

Fun fact: every woodpecker species in Nebraska has visited this setup for us—including a Pileated that was bigger than the feeder itself!

Extra tip: drill a few holes into a dead tree, add peanuts, and spread icing over the top. It’s a woodpecker magnet.

Spring is here—and your backyard birds are busy raising families 🐣

Give them a boost with our Mayday Medley—Spencer’s special blend packed with protein-rich favorites like sunflower hearts, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and more.

It’s the kind of fuel that helps birds nest, thrive, and stick around all season long.

Stop in and help your backyard become the place birds choose to call home 💚

Make your backyard the place to be this summer 🐦💧

Adding water doesn’t just help birds—it brings in species you might never see at your feeders! From simple bird baths to moving water (hello, water wigglers 👀), a few easy tweaks can turn your yard into a bird oasis.

Pro tip: moving water = fewer mosquitoes + happier birds.

Adding water might be the missing piece in your bird feeding setup 💧

It’s one of the easiest ways to attract a wider variety of birds — including bluebirds, robins, cedar waxwings, and buntings that may skip your feeders entirely.

From simple ground baths to deck-mounted options, there’s something for every yard. And don’t forget — a rock adds stability, and a heated bath keeps things going all winter long.

Have you tried adding water yet?

That old birdhouse from Grandpa might be letting in more than memories… 👀🐦

If the entry hole is too big, you’re basically inviting sparrows to take over. The fix? A simple copper portal that brings it down to the perfect 1 1/8" opening—just right for chickadees and wrens 💛

A small change = a much happier nesting season!

Haven’t seen hummingbirds yet? Don’t worry… they’re on their way 💚

A few quick tips to get ready:

Keep feeders out (patience pays off!)

Only fill a little nectar at first

Plant favorites like fuchsia to attract them

Clean those ports well — it matters more than you think

And don’t forget — they’ll be VERY active again late summer during migration!

Spring is here and cardinals are hungry! 🌼🐦

Want more of those bright red beauties in your yard? Try feeding on the ground with a safflower feast cake—cardinals, doves, and chickadees love it, but pesky critters usually don’t.

Add black oil sunflower or shelled peanuts in feeders with plenty of landing space, and don’t forget a baffle to keep squirrels out!

If you love birds, this is a fun Nebraska event to know about: the Nebraska Birding Bowl. It runs during Nebraska Bird Month and is open to all experience levels, from backyard birders to serious birders. You can track sightings, get outside, and be part of a statewide birding challenge. A great way to celebrate spring in Nebraska.
