Speed and Sprocket Cycle Works

Speed and Sprocket Cycle Works Speed & Sprocket Cycle Works is a mobile bike shop that services the Pioneer Valley and exists to embody our passion for cycling and share it with you.

Speed and Sprocket Cycle works is a mobile bike shop that has serviced the Pioneer Valley since 2013 and that, unlike traditional stores, brings the store right to you! In addition to performing repairs and tune-ups, Speed and Sprocket also offers bike and accessory sales, as well as bike maintenance instruction. With over twenty years of experience working on bikes of all types, we have the know-

how to service your entire family’s bikes. Instead of having to find the time to get all your bikes to the shop, drop them off, and then return a week (or more) later, simply book an appointment time that’s convenient for you to have Speed and Sprocket Cycle Works perform the work there on the spot. In addition to the service and sales work they offer, Speed and Sprocket has become heavily involved in the local community. We sponsor local cycling clubs (the Northampton Cycling Club and the UMass racing team), cycling advocacy groups (MassBike, the New England Mountain Biking Association, and Adventure Cycling), support local charity rides (Will Bike 4 Food, Katelynn’s Ride, the River Valley Ice Cream Ride, D2R2, and others), organize and produce fundraising events of their own (Bike to Brookfield Farm, the 3 Peaks Adventure Challenge, and others), and are a business member of 1% for the Planet.

Unfortunately it looks like this weekend's pop-up shop at the Longmeadow Shops (Sunday, May 24th) is going to be chilly and very wet, so we are going to cancel. If you were counting on service, please reach out to us at [email protected] and we will do our best to fit you in ASAP!

If you can wait, our next pop-ups at River Valley Coop in Easthampton will be Saturday, June 13th, and the Longmeadow Shops will be Sunday, June 14th and Thursday, June 18th at the Farmers Market.

Ever since Liz and I started Speed and Sprocket, we wanted to build a company that we were proud of - a company that if someone else has started it, we'd be excited and proud to apply for a job there.

That's why for the last 11 years we've been a business member of 1% for the Planet, committing to donating at least 1% of our gross sales (although every year it's been more than that) to nonprofits like World Bicycle Relief, MassBike, and other organizations making a difference in the world.

We thank you for being our customers and allowing us the opportunity to pass money on to these worthy nonprofits.

Recently, unfortunately, we've had to turn down service requests from customers who believed they had an "e-bike" that needed work of some sort.

In Massachusetts, there are two official classes of e-bikes: Class 1 and Class 2, both of which cease to provide electric assistance when the e-bike reaches 20 mph.

Some of the "bikes" that we've been asked to work on go 30+, 40+, or even up to 50 mph. These are not e-bikes, they are really more akin to mopeds or motorcycles, which is why we cannot work on them.

If you, or someone you know, is considering buying a new e-bike, keep these classifications in mind, as it might be very difficult, or impossible, for you to find a qualified mechanic to work on it if you have problems.

For more information on the laws surrounding e-bikes, head here -

With your support, we DID IT! For the third time in four years we were voted the best bicycle shop in the Valley - and not just best MOBILE shop, the best shop, PERIOD!!

Thank you all so much for your support, patronage, and spreading the word about us. We wouldn't be where we are today without all of you!

(Kudos to the runner ups: our neighbor, Northampton Bicycle, and our OLD neighbor, where we operated out of Holyoke, Highland Hardware and Bike Shop)

Our Bike Maintenance Classes return for 2026 to teach YOU all about your bike!

Some participants take these classes in order to feel confident in performing work on their own bikes. Some just like knowing HOW their bikes work to get a better sense of what they should look out for.

Whatever your reason, these hands-on classes offer plenty of time for practice and all the questions that you can come up with! For more info, or toregister for classes, head here: https://www.speedandsprocket.com/bicycle-maintenance-clinics.html
