🧈 Homemade Butter — 3 Easy Ways! 🌿
Did you know making your own butter is as simple as whipping heavy cream until it separates? You don’t need a butter churn, either! You can use a blender, KitchenAid mixer, or even a mason jar and a little muscle. 💪
🥛 Start with heavy whipping cream or cream from raw milk
KitchenAid Mixer:
Pour the cream into your mixing bowl and use the whisk attachment. Start slowly, then increase the speed. It’ll turn into whipped cream first—keep going! Eventually, the butter will separate from the buttermilk. A towel over the mixer can help contain the splashing!
Blender:
Add your heavy cream and blend until you see the butter solids separate from the liquid. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides along the way.
Mason Jar:
Fill a jar about halfway with heavy cream, tighten the lid, and SHAKE! It’ll become whipped cream first, but keep going. Eventually, the butter will separate and you’ll hear the liquid sloshing around again. This is a fun one for the kids to help with, too!
🧈 Now finish your butter:
Strain the liquid from the butter — but don’t throw it away! That’s your fresh buttermilk. Pour it into a clean jar, refrigerate it, and save it for recipes like homemade biscuits, pancakes, waffles, cornbread, muffins, or other baked goodies. Nothing has to go to waste! 🤎
Next, rinse your butter in ice-cold water, pressing and kneading it to remove as much remaining buttermilk as possible. Keep changing the water until it runs clear.
Add a little salt if you’d like, shape it, and there you have it — fresh homemade butter AND buttermilk for another recipe! 🧈🥛
Simple ingredients, old-fashioned skills, and will be the best butter ever 🌿
