An emotional and unforgettable decision from Richard Childress Racing today as the organization announced it will officially retire the No. 8 following the heartbreaking loss of Kyle Busch. 💔🏁

Beginning this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, RCR will field the No. 33 instead, honoring the incredible legacy Busch built behind the wheel of the iconic No. 8 Chevrolet.

In a powerful statement, the team explained just how deeply connected the number had become to Kyle:

“Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylized No. 8 and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry.”

For millions of NASCAR fans, the No. 8 wasn’t just a number anymore — it became part of Kyle Busch’s identity. Every burnout, every victory celebration, every battle for the lead helped cement the No. 8 as one of the most recognizable numbers in modern NASCAR.

But the most emotional part of the announcement may have been the final sentence:

“The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.”

A statement that instantly brought tears to fans across the racing world. ❤️
