OH MY! Well the state is certainly in our pockets, and resolute in their determination to protect our food. All food production for sale must be processed/baked/packaged in a state approved kitchen. License required - State Food Manufacturing License. $350 first year, $250 renewal. All items used in the production of said food must be stored at the location where the product is produced OR a state food warehouse license is required - $350 first year. To actually SELL the item requires a Food Retail license - another $350.
This is for ANY food item sold in the state. Note SOLD. Any item that you want to produce for friends and family has no restriction. Solution #1 - don't sell your food stuffs. Ask for a minimum donation.
Solution #2 - Find a retail space that has a kitchen in the back. Pay the fee to have it inspected, rent closet space to store bulk, produce items there and sell in front. Only license necessary wiill be Retail Food.
Solution #3 (mostly an option for me or for your Salsa) Find someone to bottle your product in their facility. Not sure about the license on that one - he said something about no FOOD license necessary to resale packaged food items, may still need retail 'point of sale' license. SIGH
So, our next big adventure needs to be a public kitchen/storage/retail store! LOLOL
