A little more about the writer's retreat that Ancient Industries decorated for the M & G sponsored garden designed by Jo Thompson for the Chelsea Flower Show. We were lucky enough to collaborate with our favourite modern traditionalists such as Felicity Irons (rush weaving), Marianna Kennedy (lighting and mirror), Kirsten Hecktermann (embroidery), Flora Starkey (cut flowers), Theodora Wayte (calligraphy), Mark Hearld for St Judes (textiles), Another Country (desk and stool) and Gareth Neal (chairs). And others! It was a lot of fun, despite gale force wind and sheets of rain.

Prince Harry got in early today, ahead of the 165,000 others expected to attend the annual Chelsea Flower Show after it opens to the public tomorrow. So can we. Here's a behind-the-scenes sneak peek:

On the subject of Downton Abbey, Hartley Greens, the makers of our beloved Hunslet range (which is heavily featured in the Servants' Dining Hall) have very sadly gone out of business. Our final shipment has just arrived, so carpe diem, as Mr Carson might say.

Hunslet Mugs. Below stairs utility chic, with a herringbone twist. Made in Stoke-on-Trent by Hartley Greens, Leeds Pottery, established 1781. *while stocks last! This company is now extinct. Price: $25

It is with regret that we will be discontinuing sales of the Sheila Maid after the current stock is sold out. We love the Sheila Maid, and we have really appreciated the positive response and engaging with the very nice customers that Sheila has attracted. We are delighted to have added an element of joy and efficiency to the business of laundry across America. But we're ill-equipped to handle the demands of Lord Grantham's mother-in-law, and unfortunately we have encountered one too many of these to have the heart to continue. We sincerely thank you for your continued support and look forward to concentrating on smaller objects.

We're also quite excited about the new selection of baker's twine from Merchant and Mills who are based in Rye, East Sussex. Ancient Industries will be visiting Rye in about 2 weeks, as well as Hastings, Great Dixter, and erm, Sissinghurst. But more on that later. http://ancientindustries.com/shop/products/baker-s-twine

Our latest obsession: Fog Linen, from Japan. Luxurious and thick and soft, it's all that you want from European linen, but the Japanese just do it better. And they wrap things so prettily. Aprons and tea towels now online at Ancient Industries. http://ancientindustries.com/shop

Apologies for the long silence! This is part of the reason. When not running an art department at Random House or a shop in Cornwall, I have been working on the graphics and a myriad of projects related to running an inn in Salisbury. If you're in the Northwest Corner of Connecticut do stop by for a delicious meal by Annie Wayte.

Shuttered abruptly four years ago, Connecticut’s beloved centuries-old White Hart Inn reopens with a mission to become a hangout and hideaway for the area’s cultural cognoscenti.
