1982: When Horror Punk Met Midwest Hardcore 💀

Before algorithmic playlists, bands like the Misfits and Ohio’s Necros had to build their own underground networks from scratch, trading tapes and booking grueling DIY tours across America.

While the Misfits brought the iconic B-movie horror aesthetics and devilocks, the Necros brought pure, blistering velocity. They were actually the very first band to release a record on the legendary Touch and Go Records (T&G #1), bridging the gap between Midwest grit and East Coast punk.

These flyers capture a heavy touring window in September 1982. The connection between them ran so deep that when the Misfits played their final show of the Danzig era in Detroit on Halloween weekend 1983, it was Necros drummer Todd Swalla who stepped in mid-set to salvage the drums.
