The Butterfields Candy factory is located in Nashville, NC, a small rural town just west of Rocky Mount, NC. Dena Manning , the new owner and operator, has personally directed, mainly her family members, the complete refurbishment of the entire factory and all of its equipment. Lucky for her, her family is comprised of some pretty savvy, smart engineers and they have gotten the factory up and run

ning in record time. Longtime employees that took great care in hand producing this fine confection in big, old copper kettles, are back and happy to be back. The candy we are making now tastes just like the original candy in their distinct, seductive flavors, especially everyone's all time favorite, Peach Buds. We have been so encouraged by the positive responses we have received from loyal customers that we are back in operation and it has made our job easier and certainly more joyful in fullfilling our promise to bring back the confection loved by so many. So, please visit website, which is under construction at the moment, but will be up and running by months' end. You will be able to find out more about our products there, Or drop us an email at [email protected].

Every generation
of mothers is doing
something impossible.

Something has been on my mind as Mother's Day approaches.

I think about the new mothers, the ones right now figuring out who they are inside a role that changes everything overnight. The world they are navigating looks different from the one their own mothers navigated, and nobody handed them a guide. They are finding their footing in real time, often alone, often exhausted, often quietly wondering if they are doing it right.

And I think about the mothers who have been at this for decades, like myself, who love their grown children with the same fierce and tender love they had at the very beginning, but find themselves standing at the edge of a landscape that keeps shifting beneath them. They are learning a new language, trying to stay close, trying to understand. That is its own kind of courage.

"Different generation. Different map. The same love that is completely unchanged."

What I know for certain is this: the love is the same. Whatever year it is. Whatever the world looks like. Whatever is hard and new and confusing, underneath all of it, a mother loves her child in a way that does not require translation.

That is the only thing that has never changed since 1924. Not the world. Not the challenges. Just the love that made all of us who we are.

If there is a mother in your life, new or seasoned, certain or finding her way, we would be honored to send her something made with the same kind of care she has always given.

Send her something sweet.

Each box leaves our hands personally considered.
She will feel that and so will you.

Dena

The photo is one of my mother, myself and my daughter while my mother was undergoing chemo treatments for ovarian cancer we took a trip, her last one. I was in my 30's and I still miss her everyday.

I was surprised that our own message rang true for me too this past Christmas.
I didn't know what to bring when I visited my nephews and niece this year for Christmas. They're grown now, past toys, past gaming, and I honestly didn't know what they were into. Both my nephews are married, and my niece is getting ready to go to Space Force.
So, I brought something simple. Peppermint and Peach Buds in a mason jar.
As soon as I started pulling them out of the bag, they smiled in a way that surprised me. Big smiles. The kind that says this feels familiar. They immediately opened the jars and started sharing them with each other, and that sweetness - both kinds - reminded me of something.
Sometimes what we're really giving isn't a thing at all. It's recognition.
Small things still carry weight. Familiar things still mean something. Love doesn't have to compete to be felt.
Every time they reach into those jars, they'll remember, just like when you were little and grandpa always had a piece of candy in his pocket for you.
Sometimes the thing that feels simplest, the one you almost don't bring, is the thing that stays. Happy New Year!

Not every Christmas is full and loud.
And that doesn’t mean it’s broken.

For some, this season is quieter. There may not be anyone to share every light or tradition with. And when the world keeps selling us one picture of “merry,” it can make that quiet feel heavy.

This is something I want to share as there is meaning in the smallest things and it makes such a difference: a quiet Christmas can still be a beautiful one.

Joy doesn’t always arrive with noise. Sometimes it comes softly, in reflection, in memory, in small comforts, in honoring yourself exactly where you are.

So many in our Butterfields community are older, carrying long stories and tender hearts. If this season feels lonely, please know you are seen here. You matter. You belong.

If today is quiet, let it be gentle.
That is enough.

Sweetness in small doses are the best. Merry Christmas

Dena 🤍
