Just got home from the International Society of Bassists Convention at Indiana University. The week's featured events include a maker's competition which is always great! Beautiful instruments come from all over the world to be judged by a handful of master Luthiers and players from the classical and jazz bass worlds who serve as tone judges. Additionally, the ISB has been sponsoring a "Build - a - Bass" event which this year was housed in the set building area of the Opera Theater department. I understand that a total of five basses were worked on during the week. One was raffled off to a lucky young man at Friday night's concert. It's a great fund raising event for the ISB and also a great learning experience for the Luthiers and volunteers who join in the work. Check the ISB website for pics of the event.
